What I learned from fits of anger

Wise & Mighty Golden Oak Tree Foliage

Stuff I learned from many fits of anger:

Be patient and compassionate with yourself. Anger is a valid emotion too. A call to action. Can be used as a tool to discern what needs are not being met, and how to go about changing that situation.

The most important thing is to avoid taking the anger out on yourself or others. It almost always backfires and who does that serve?

So ask: what needs are not being met here?

What can be done to change this?

When change isn’t an option, what can be done to make peace with the situation?

Forgiveness is a big one. Of yourself especially. So many have anger issues because they never learned to forgive themselves.

Anger is an acid that does more damage to the vessel in which it is stored,
than to the object on which it is poured.
~ Mark Twain

He didn’t say it’s toxic to get angry. Holding onto it turns it poisonous. Cool dude.

So much going on lately. Too much. Many stress factors. We all have blind spots. The best way to learn is through experience. Mistakes are an effective path to learning.

Be gentle with yourself. 💜
